Why is it important to check requirements for shipping and installation already before or during production?
- Because the prefabricated parts and components need to fit into the means of transport (sea container, truck, airplane) and the packaging should be matching these, too.
- Because the parts must match the given situation at the destination like e.g. door openings, stairs, elevators, floor level etc.
- Because otherwise it may cause expensive surprises like special heavy load transport, missing the plane/ship or parts not fitting through the door/ opening.
- Because the shipment already needs to be enrolled with the customs at the start of the production.
What needs to be considered regarding shipping and logistics?
- Lead times for airports/ seaports, maximum dimension of crates for airfreight and matching weight of crates and individual components with capabilities at the destination (and transit)
- To arrange heavy load or excess length transports or special packaging for hazardous goods
- To effect transport insurance, to agree on incoterms (with customer), coordinate activities & responsibilities
- Nothing special, it is the job of the freight forwarding company to take care of the details.
What needs to be considered concerning the import and export?
- That requirements for the delivery are clarified regarding rules, regulations, documents and standards for customs and local law.
- That an envelope with cash will be included to ensure that the delivery will go through customs more smoothly.
- That a personal letter of appreciation addressed to the customs officer in charge is send along with the documents.
- That the freight forwarding company knows the customs officer in person.
